Do you use imported or endangered species?

I never use endangered species and the only imported woods I use are Australian burrs imported under strict licence, and some seed husks such as Brazil nut. From my previous two years turning output I worked out that nearly 99% of the wood I used was sourced locally from sustainable sources. I intend to better this percentage in the coming year.

Are all the pieces on the website available to purchase?

Yes, unless listed as SOLD. A near copy, allowing for the vagaries of the material, can be made to order by request, and upon payment of a 30% deposit.

Do you do doorknobs?

I will turn you a doorknob. I might even be cajoled into turning you half a dozen. But please do not ask me to turn you a couple of hundred. My refusal might offend and the cost of a couple of hundred hand-turned doorknobs might give you a turn yourself!

Is that your best price?

Unless you are asking me that question at a carboot sale then the answer is "yes".

Do you not feel bad about cutting trees down to make these things out of?

(Although this question was only asked once, I think it has a place here...)

I do not cut trees down to turn the wood. Some of the timber I use was indeed  felled for the purpose of selling it and making a profit, but timber of this nature is a crop and was planted and managed over many, many years to this specific end. The people who do this fell and re-plant and probably do more for broadleaf  woodland management than many others with less commercial motivatons.

A great deal of the wood I use comes from wind-fallen stock, from woodland managent shemes designed and operated to the benefit of the woodland, and from the prunings and coppice work of tree surgeons.

I also plant trees in order to put something back. I love trees above the wood they offer, and have a vested interest in their continued existance.

Do you want some wood?

Yes please! Email with details and I will reply by return.

Do you have a shop or gallery?

I don't have a personal gallery, but you may find some pieces in the following gallery:

If your question is not answered here it is probably because it is not a frequently asked one, so please email me with it and I will do my best to answer by reply.
