About the Makers

About

Cobwebcrafts is both workplace and gallery for the two makers, Andy and John, and inhabits a building which formally served as the office for the Darby timber mill, a long standing Beccles company which sadly no longer trades. The building comprises three rooms, one a gallery, and the other two serving as small individual workshops.

Andy Coates RPT

Andy Coates is a member of the Register of Professional Turners, supported by the Worshipful Company of Turners of London, and is an officer on the Executive Committee of the Association of Woodturners of Great Britain (AWGB). Andy is a full-time woodturner who produces everything on the lathe from small production runs for furniture makers, builders and architects, restoration work for antique dealers, and his own particular passion, which is making decorative objects on the lathe. Andy works predominently in native hardwoods, with exotic species only being used when sourced from reclaimed or recovered stocks.

Andy offers tuition in all ranges from raw beginner to advanced, and can tailor a course to specific requirements if necessary. Andy also demonstrates at woodturning clubs, and for other groups, and can provide costs by phone or email.

Andy has a popular blog, www.woodturningblog.wordpress.com, where he posts on general woodturning issues and the day to day trials of a full time woodturner.

John Wilson

John Wilson John Wilson is a stained and fused glass maker with over fifteen years' experience of glass work. John's main area of interest is in the restoration of existing panels, and bringing them back to life and use is his real passion, and he is always ready to discuss a client's requirements. A recenmt addition to John's range is Tiffany-style lamp shades, which hark back to a classic style of art and craftsmanship.
